I don't care what devtools or toolkits they use to achieve what they do, I care about the end UI feel, and it's just awkward on all platforms to me.Īdditionally, 1Password 8 removes the single most used feature for me - 1Password Mini - and replaces it with Quick Access. Honestly it would be better if it was totally different to any of the main platforms instead of vaguely approximating them. It is a weird self-designed UI toolkit that is well inside the uncanny valley scenario - it is a UI design that feels like it is trying to approximate all of the major platform desktop UIs without committing to actually feeling like any given platform - so it feels wrong everywhere. It "fits" in macOS, it follows macOS design paradigms.ġPassword 8 does not. The 1Password 7 app on macOS is a beautiful native app. Sorry. This is 1Password 8 dependent, so unfortunately I doubt I'll ever use it. (In Firefox, the new version is 2.0.2) Interesting that back around 2017, many "experts" warned about the risks of 1Password's public facing cloud storage getting hacked. Also, there's a new 1Password extension for browsers, the former "1Password X." They ask that all users migrate to it, as previous extension (4.7.5.x or something like that) is being phased out. A nuisance, and I wish the 1Password engineers could fix. Solution is to remove copies of app off external drives. It will complain about more than one copy of the app, and may not load. (Just out of curiosity: do other password managers do that? Anyone?) Only issue is that it gets confused if you have a clone, or TM backup, with the app on it. App still works exceptionally well, syncs seamlessly between devices, and it is so easy to share logins with others. Family subscription is probably the best deal out there. I'm used to the subscription now, but I get that it's a turnoff for many. And please, don't give me that spiel that the 'paid upgrade' to v 7 works fine with iCloud - if it does just post a link to where on AB's site it gives straightforward instructions on how to set it up - I can't find them anywhere. Something that doesn't stop working for no good reason. Any recommendations? Happy to pay for each upgrade say yearly of course, just not monthly ad aeternum. Goodbye, 1Password, it's been a good relationship but you got greedy and I am off in search of pastures new. It conveniently 'jams' on the login screen and stays there, having a little hissy fit because I don't want to subscribe to AgileBit's subscription model. If this does not help, please contact AgileBits support." Needless to say, restarting it does FA. I get the message "1Password failed to connect to 1Password Mini. I have a lot of 64-bit apps designed for the Intel architecture which run just fine on it. Well I took the plunge and bought a new Mac which came with OS11 Big Sur. They are perfect fit in the Apple world and with other platforms. I was around when the Mac began and the enthusiasm that the 1Password team has exhibited since they began was, and remains, along the lines of those developers’ who were there when it all started. I will be a customer of 1Password for as long as it exists and will also be a customer of any related 1Password product(s) in the future. There’s value for the money with 1Password as it is under consistent and constant development. Given that security is a diligent 24/7 endeavor I place my trust in 1Password for managing an organization focused on providing just that. Growing a business from four people to a legitimate full-fledged multi-national organization with over five-hundred employees is no easy task and that's what they have done. This, and only one other app, are the only ones I have a subscription to, so I am exceedingly picky about subscription based software. Why? The founders’ have a multi-national corporate background in tech they have always responded to help queries they provide me with a necessary multi-platform app. I am a staunch supporter, and have been since the release (2006) of 1Password.
